The ingredients needed to make Batata Vada:
  1. Get 3 big Potatoes
  2. Make ready to taste Salt
  3. Prepare For Tempering
  4. Get 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  5. Make ready 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  6. Get 1/2 tsp Red Chilli powder
  7. Make ready 2 green Chillies
  8. Get 1 tsp minced Ginger
  9. Prepare 1 tsp minced Garlic
  10. Take 1 tbsp chopped Coriander leaves
  11. Take For Batter
  12. Prepare 200 gm Gram flour
  13. Prepare as needed Water
  14. Take 1/2 tsp Red Chilli powder
  15. Get 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  16. Make ready to taste Salt
  17. Take 1 pinch soda bi carb
  18. Make ready 1 tsp finely chopped Coriander leaves

Serve hot with tea and green chutney / tomato ketch up. Serving Ideas: Serve Batata Vada as a snack or side dish with green chilli and coriander chutney. Instructions to make Batata Vada:
  1. Cook the potatoes until soft, peel and mash coarsely.
  2. Chop or crush together the green chillies, garlic, ginger and the coriander leaves.
  3. Take gram flour in a bowl.
  4. Add turmeric, chilli, salt and soda bi carb.
  5. Add chopped coriander leaves.
  6. Add water and make a thick batter.
  7. Heat oil and add mustard seeds.
  8. Mix in all the rest of the tempering ingredients.
  9. Add to the mashed potatoes.
  10. Mix all well.
  11. Divide the potato mixture into equal sized balls.
  12. Dip each ball in the batter and deep fry until golden brown in colour.
  13. Remove from oil and place on tissue paper.
  14. Serve hot with your favourite chutney.
